MAPIM (Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia)

Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM) is an organization actively developing academic and scientific publications. Its affiliates are made up of all publishers of the Institution of Public Higher Education (IPTA), a research centre in Malaysia, and the Institute of Language and Literature (DBP). The Committee was established on July 11, 1996, as a result of the DBP-IPT Technical Committee Meeting (5/96) held at the DBP Sarawak branch. Officially, MAPIM was approved for its establishment by the MAPIM Steering Committee Meeting on May 22, 1997. The appointment of a MAPIM member is made by the Director General, the Department of Higher Education Malaysia, as chair of Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM), chair of the MAPIM Steering Committee Meeting, and the Ministry of Education Malaysia. Currently, MAPIM is made up of 27 members comprising the Institute of Language and Literature (DBP), IPTA publishers, research institutes, and government agencies.

MAPIM’S OBJECTIVES

• Strive to enhance and promote scholarly publications in Malaysia, especially among IPTA publishers, research centres, and the Institute of Language and Literature.
• Collaborate and occasionally coordinate scholarly publications among Malaysian scholarly publishers, research centres, the Institute of Language and Literature, and other publishers.
• Develop scholarly publishing infrastructure in financial policy, editorial and production, marketing, and training organizations.
• Establish a network of information exchange that is useful for researching progress and avoids duplication and waste of energy, expertise, time, and money.
• Hold meetings in the form of council meetings from time to time to discuss the importance and development of scholarly publications.
